The Meadowbrook School and Huntingdon Valley Chess Society Juniors present
the 13th Annual Philadelphia Metropolitan Grade/HS Chess Championship
Saturday, November 9, 2019
Congratulations to the students who participated in the 13th Philadelphia Metropolitan Chess Tournament held at Meadowbrook School Saturday, November 9th. The 7 Meadowbrook School students listed below competed against other students from Delaware, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and surrounding area schools. The 74 players, ranging from Kindergarten through High School, followed the specific regulations of the United States Chess Federation. As each student played 5 games of chess with different opponents, hard work and concentration were key elements of the day. We are proud to announce that our students won the several trophies listed below. Congratulations Chess Team!
In order for this event to take place we would like to thank several members of our school community. We appreciate Mr. Frank and Mr. Tom for setting up the tables and chairs, and Mr. Oser was very helpful setting up the sound system. We are grateful to Mrs. Kent and Mrs. DePhillips and Emily Kent ’20 and Logan Keifaber ’17 for to sell food during Saturday’s event. Mrs. Strother and the Extended Day students did a beautiful job decorating the Dining Commons and Mrs. Blumenthal made sure all of the students’ art work was carefully displayed for our guests to enjoy.
We look forward to continuing to build our chess skills with Chess Club for 2,3,4,5, and 6 grade students on Friday afternoons and K, 1, 2 grade students which will start in January on Tuesdays after school.
Way to go Meadowbrook Chess Team! Mrs. Mockaitis
