FAQ

9 Frequently Asked Questions Regarding The Annual Fund

Q

What about tuition, doesn't that cover the operating needs of the school?

A

Tuition does not meet the full cost of educating a Meadowbrook student. Tuition and fees covered 87 percent of the operating budget last year. Thus, the Annual Fund is vital to helping make up the difference – the difference being additional opportunities and stronger programs for Meadowbrook students and faculty.

Q

How much is that "gap" per student?

A

Annual Fund dollars help to make up the difference between tuition and the actual cost of a Meadowbrook education. The average cost per student which is not paid for by tuition is about $2,500.

Q

Why not just raise tuition?

A

Minimizing the annual rate of increase in tuition helps make Meadowbrook more affordable and accessible to a wide population. A successful Annual Fund is one of the ways that allows the school to achieve a student body that is diverse and multi-talented.

Q

Who supports the Annual Fund?

A

Every member of the Meadowbrook community – alumni, parents, grandparents, parents of alumni and other friends – is asked to give generously to the Annual Fund at the level appropriate for him or her. We hope that parents will make the school a philanthropic priority while their children are here and that alumni will honor Meadowbrook’s tradition of generosity by supporting today's students. Broad participation ensures a successful Annual Fund. Every gift, no matter the amount, is greatly appreciated and important to our success.

Q

How will I be recognized for my gift?

A

Your name will be listed in our Annual Report of Philanthropic Giving for giving in the previous school year. You will be listed with others in all the constituencies that apply to you. When applicable, you may be listed under a giving club. You may also remain anonymous if you so designate

Q

How are Annual Fund dollars spent? Can I designate a specific use for my Annual Fund Gift?

A

Annual Fund dollars are unrestricted and can be used where needs and priorities are greatest. It should be noted that the Annual Fund supplements the general operating budget. The school's budget funds everything from faculty salaries and student financial aid to classroom materials, extracurricular supplies and daily campus operations. Gifts designated to a specific purpose not already included in the regular operating budget are considered "restricted" and therefore not considered an Annual Fund gift.

Q

Can I make a restricted gift? Will it count towards the Annual Fund?

A

Yes, you can make a restricted gift; however, it cannot be counted towards the Annual Fund, which is by definition unrestricted.

Q

Can I make a gift in honor or in memory of someone?

A

Tribute gifts are a wonderful way to remember someone who has had a special connection to Meadowbrook. It is a great way to remember your favorite faculty member, student or a friend. When you make your gift, by check or credit card, indicate whom the gift honors and the office will notify the honoree that a gift has been made, but not the amount.
