The physical education program at Meadowbrook School offers activities
that enhance a student's physical, social, intellectual, and emotional
maturity. Active participation in movement, sports, and recreational
activities aims to instill a sense of accomplishment and appreciation
of physical activity that could carry over into later life.
In addition to the two hours each week of physical education classes for
most grades, there are additional special activities that are annual
occurrences. Every Friday afternoon the students in grades three, four,
five and six participate in INTRAMURAL COMPETITION. A running tally of
points is kept and the winning teams are announced semi-annually. In the
fall of each year, as a culmination of the soccer unit, there are two
RED-GRAY SOCCER games played on our fields. There is a game for the students
in grades one, two, and three and another game played for students in
grades four, five, and six. Team spirit is a positive outcome of these
games. During the months of January and February, all students are bused
to a local ice rink for recreational ICE SKATING. There
are five or six
Friday afternoons spent learning how to skate, or to take a risk, or to
improve skating skills. The unit is concluded with a Sunday Family Skate
held in late February or early March. In addition to the student's family
being invited, the event serves as an opportunity for alumni and friends to
meet with the current faculty and students.
During the winter months, an
after school INTRAMURAL SPORTS PROGRAM is offered to students in grades five
and six. Some of the offered activities are basketball, floor hockey,
indoor soccer, and volleyball. This program is optional and can vary
according to the interest of the group. Meadowbrook boys and girls in grades
five and six have the opportunity to participate in an INTERSCHOLASTIC
SPORTS program after school hours. The School fields a co-educational
soccer team and a girls field hockey team during the fall months of each
year. Co-educational baseball and softball teams are fielded in the spring
months annually.
Meadowbrook is proud of the variety of physical activities offered to our
elementary school age boys and girls. We are proud of the interest that is
generated by the students, their growth and skill development, and the
attitude of sportsmanship displayed by participants.
