Meadowbrook prides itself on the many traditions that
have developed over the years. Here is a brief description of some
of our favorite ones...
Animal Adoption
When Meadowbrook
closes for breaks, our animal friends in the Science Center become
available as temporary guests in the homes of our students.
Chimes
A musical performance group
of fifth and sixth graders.
Community Service Learning
At Meadowbrook,
every grade level participates in Community Service Learning. We believe
the students gain an awareness of and sensitivity toward others as
well as an understanding of the importance of volunteer service. For
example, students in grades three through six visit local nursing homes
and establish one-on-one relationships with residents whom they visit
and correspond with throughout the year and beyond.
"David Dollar"
Named for Headmaster
David B. Stephens, these "dollars" are given to students as a reward
for demonstrating acts of kindness or for making a positive difference
in daily school life.
Field Day
A day of intramural
athletic competition between Red and Grey teams (our school colors).

Flag Club/Chair Club
As a means
of increasing our children's level of involvement and responsibility
at the school, fifth graders assume the tasks of raising and lowering
the American flag each day, while fourth graders set up chairs in
the Dining Commons in preparation for lunch.
Grandparent/Special Friend Day
Each
year, a day is set aside in which third grade children may bring their
grandparent/special friend to school for a tour, a view of what they
are doing in class, and refreshments.
Grub Days
Periodically, on Fridays,
students wear "grub", or casual clothes, rather than
school uniforms.
Hobby Show
Sixth graders have a
chance to show their school peers their extracurricular pursuits as
they "present" their favorite hobby.
Ice Skating
Each Friday afternoon
in January and February, the entire school goes ice skating at a local
rink. Upper classmen help younger students take to the ice for a family-oriented,
fun-filled afternoon.
Meadowbrook Singers
A choral group
of fourth, fifth and sixth graders that meet weekly and perform at
local community events.
Medieval Festival
Meadowbrook's
sixth grade "seniors", take part in a gala that sweeps them back in
time to the Middle Ages. Children are dressed in period costumes, and
take part in realistic events that depicts the activities of the times.
These include a maypole dance, a jousting tournament, a dubbing ceremony
for "lords" and "ladies" and a real medieval feast.
Red and Grey Soccer
An annual intramural
soccer competition where first, second and third graders compete, followed
by a game among our fourth, fifth and sixth graders.
School Clubs
A variety of after
school clubs including Math and Chess.
Science Expo
An annual exposition
of student science projects in several categories of exploration.
Summer Camps
Meadowbrook offers
a summer arts and crafts camp, four different Summer Discovery Days
trips as well as field hockey camp for girls.
Sledding
On snowy days at lunch
and recess breaks, students (and their parents!) are welcome to enjoy
sledding on the beautiful Meadowbrook grounds.
Waiters
Our fifth graders learn
responsibility and service to others during lunch in the Dining Commons,
as waiters for their fellow classmates.
