Small by Design

We are extremely proud to be a small private school. The Meadowbrook School community is small by design. While small class sizes and student-to-teacher ratios have become common lexicon in education discourse, Meadowbrook has always focused on creating a small community.

While our class sizes (avg: 10 students) continue to be well below the norms of both the Pennsylvania public elementary school (avg: 24.5 students) and Pennsylvania Private Schools (avg: 15 students), we’ve also spent the last nine decades developing an intimate community where all students are known and recognized.

As a student at Meadowbrook your child can take comfort in knowing that they will have an entire community to participate in. Every student and adult on campus will know your child by name.

Meadowbrook has meticulously designed school wide activities and events, which encourage a sense of community. This sense of community extends beyond school colors and mascots. One of the many enduring traditions at Meadowbrook is our family-style lunches. Everyday our students and faculty sit down together at multi-ages tables to share the day’s experiences over a home cooked meal. Our lead waiters, the fifth and sixth grade students, are responsible for serving the meal to the younger students at the table. This type of daily interaction between students of different grade-levels fosters a sense of responsibility among our students for the well being of one another.

We also encourage our students to take pride in each other accomplishments through our buddy programs. Our most popular buddy program is our Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten and Sixth grade cooperative partnership. At the beginning of each school year, each Sixth Grader is given a Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten buddy to mentor throughout the year. Through monthly activities and events a deep and long lasting friendship is forged. It is not uncommon for our alumni to return years after graduation so that they can reconnect with their “buddies.”

Our small design also has tremendous academic advantages for our students. We not only offer small classes but we also have an incredibly experienced staff of master teachers. The depths of our programs, the breadth of our curriculum, and the success of our graduates is a testament to the strength of our teachers. They are experts in elementary and pre-elementary education. This expertise and mastery of the content insures each child receives the differentiated instruction they deserve.

As a parent of a prospective student we want you to know that here at Meadowbrook your child will not be invisible. They will be greeted at the front door every day by our morning greeters and dismissed every evening by our sixth grade runners. In between they will develop meaningful relationships with their classmates and fellow schoolmates. We take great pride in not only the academic success of our graduates, but also the compassion for which our students have for one another.
